Everything in the “Pousada Nova Holanda” is simple and practical. Because is was build using natural materials and tropical woods it's really beautiful though. The apartments have a lot of space, are comfortable, clean and in excellent condition. Because of the warm climate, the wind and the salt in the air, things keep falling apart, so we have are own maintainers to keep everything up to date.

Our biggest fans are children, because they have there own separate little sleeping room and start bargening right away who is to sleep in the upper bed. They love our amazing swimming pool as  well, because it's so big en deep that it allows you to dive. At the beach and along the river the smallest children find their super children's paradise, with strange little animals and exotic plants and young teenagers will find a whole new world to discover, a world they only know from films. It might seem a bit worrying to let them loose in a tropical country at the other side of the world, but Barra do Cunhaú is safer than Birmingham or Brighton. If they know how to swim well, you'll have even less to worry about.

Elderly people love the fact that we don't have MTV or any other cheap sound all day long and that you just hear the sound of the wind and the sea at night. The prices are such, that those who spend the wintertime in some place south in Europa, will find our place a luxury they can easily afford. The climate here is better than at any other place you know and an authentic fisherman's village like Barra you'll hardly find in Europe anymore. In case you're fed up with rice and beans, you can prepare your own fish and chips in our kitchen, if you like.

Barra do Cunhaú is excellent for any kind o water sports, except diving. The pousada has kayaks for rent, but all the rest you have to bring yourself, because there are no local places to provide anything. The kite surfers say, that Barra is among the best places in the world for kite surfing, no matter if your are a still learning or a pro.

Those who go on holidays to do some pub crawling and other heavy nightly sports find it in Pipa (just 8 km far, by the way). Those who love shopping and towns will have to go to  Natal. So if you want the best of two worlds, you will stay in Barra do Cunhaú and rent a car to go after the crowd.  Most of the advertising about “historic sites” and “miracles of nature” are a kind of make belief. Nature is beautiful here and you'll find some fantastic landscapes, but not so many interesting items. Those who love theaters and museums, better go somewhere else.

Daily Routine

This place is very informal and easy going. No room maid will wake you up, because the room has to be cleaned at nine and you can have breakfast any time you want. There are no waiters passing by every fifteen minutes to ask you if you please would like another drink. Everything just happens when you ask for it, the moment you ask for it. Excuse me.., fifteen minutes later. Often people ask us, if they are allowed to organize a barbecue (yes, you are), but really loud party's never take place.
